For a while I thought about getting a Vickers Tactical 1911 ordered ahead for my birthday

I know, even at $3500 they were pretty sweet.  Nighthawk stopped selling them as of March 1 because Larry Vickers thought they were too expensive for a pistol he never personally worked on.  But with the crowned barrel and the Caspian frame and slide, that was my dream pistol and would have been worth it.  I thought about getting a credit card just to order one, but my wife doesn't have a job right now and doesn't seem motivated to get one.

At any rate, Vickers travels around giving smithing classes.  I've thought about going to one to build my own carry weapon.

Not a guy I want to piss off by stealing his bandwidth to post pictures, but it is a beautiful pistol.

A little background on Vickers, he joined the Army straight to the Green Berets, and after 5 years joined Delta Force.  Served in Delta for the next 15 years and still apparently works with them testing out new weapons and giving his input.  He's considered one of the top 1911 gunsmiths in the country, and he's been the driving force behind the HK 416 and 417, as well as the new HK45 pistol.  In addition to that he was one of the founders of the IDPA shooting league along with Bill Wilson (a major 1911 manufacturer) and Ken Hackathorn (considered one of the foremost authorities on firearms and tactics in the non-military area).  http://www.vickerstactical.com
