Picture this:  the date is April 12th, 1994.  The first spam email message is being sent out to 100,000 Usenet accounts by immigration lawyers Laurence Canter and Martha Siegel, offering their services.  That is not me.  I am living in Florida.

Lol Billy...

I'm in St. Petersburg. It's a nice place.  I like Florida...as long as I'm near the coast.
I kinda like the humidity, but that's probably just cuz I'm on vacation.

I'm going to the Busch gardens on Thursday and later on going to Miami and will stay 2-3 nights.

The mosquitos are onto my sweet blood.

I lived on Captiva Island for a few years (was the windsurfing instructor for South Seas Plantation) before moving north to Port Charlotte and stayed there until I entered Officer Training School.

St Pete is nice but I always liked the west coast better than the east.  The sunsets are much better.

I lived on Captiva Island for a few years

I don't know how long it's been since you were there, but the whole island has changed a bit since the hurricanes in 2004-2005.

And the bridge has also been replaced with a nice new one (basically paralleling the old one) now includes a pretty hefty toll (I wanna say it's $7.00 but haven't been there in a while).  At least you only have to pay the toll for island-bound travel.  It's free to cross back to Ft. Myers.

You talking about the causeway from Ft Myers to Sanibel or the bridge at Blind Man's Pass connecting Sanibel and Captiva?

I was on Captiva for a week or for Christmas 09. It was pretty fun. Did some para sailing and rented out one of those little street buggies. The steering on those things...lmao.

You talking about the causeway ...

Yeah, the main causeway.  Sorry.

Before it was re-dredged a few years back, Blind Man's Pass wasn't even navigable for most powered boats.  It had nearly completely filled in with sand to the point that only canoes, kayaks and real skinny water flats boats could make it through.

I used to fish over there about once a year before my kids were born.  We'd usually make a couple of west coast trips a year - one to Chokoloskee/Everglades City and one to Ding.

What are you planning for in Miami?

And FYI, it's prime mosquito time down here right now.  If you're gonna be near the beaches you should be OK but if you're even a couple miles inland and the winds are out of the west, the little bastards are getting blown in from the Glades and are pretty bad at dawn/dusk.

No specifics yet, but lots of beach time I'm sure.

Any hidden hotel/hostel deals you know of? Not sure what my hosts were thinking, but they're trying to book literally last minute...

Thanks for the mosquito warning. I appreciate it.

Do you gotta come down to Miami by any chance? We could meet up! Lol it would be wild to meet someone from RS finally.

EDIT:
Looks like we're staying tonight in Ft.Lauderdale by 'the airport'.
