China who is suppose to be a big world leader now are still acting like little children holding the new Noble Peace Prize winner hostage for 11 years and aren't allowing his family to get it. Last time this happened was in 1936 when a scientist wouldn't leave Nazi Germany.

I'm curious, is China so big now that they are finally throwing their weight around the world, saying the Noble Peace Prize is a Western (US) ploy to undermine the Chinese Government? I'm seeing their behavior as a "No they are not ready to be a world leader" they still have a lot of work to do.

That's because they're government is a bunch of control freaks and leaders in having no respect for human rights. Don't worry, the US is trying to catch up. Soon Big Brother will be watching us as Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia battle it out while we commit thoughtcrime.

Totalitarian agendas ftl.

In a seemingly brief lapse of grammatical finesse I wrote "they're" instead of "their". I apologize to all those offended and will accept the consequences of my error. In fact, that whole first sentence blows. Thank God this is just the Internet and there do not exist actual grammar police yet.

It's great you are thinking a world leader should behave otherwise, and be a 'good' country, as opposed to a bully. Sadly, the nice guys don't become world leaders. So they are right on track for indeed becoming a world leader.

I'd rather see Japan take a lead.

No doubt, they're more interested in money and pride than anything. Let them have the biggest ego in the world! Much better than 5ft China man whipping me...

Japan is going to be annihilated by China in the coming years. China still hasn't forgiven them for what they did to their people. With China's new found power of bitching, it'll happen

I think it is completely obvious that this particular Nobel prize was meant to undermine the Chinese government. You can argue all you want about the merits of the governments, but that doesn't change the intent of the award. It is an attempt to exert political pressure on China to change its government. So in that respect China is correct in its statement.

Now if I think China is wrong in what they are doing I would say absolutely. It is a gross human rights abuse for sure. At the same time, from what I can tell, Xiaobo did break a Chinese law. Now I don't support that law, nor do I support China in its actions, but I think that is an important point to note.

On Japan-China relations, the bilateral relationship between the two have been generally good in recent history. There have been, and always will be. tensions between them. I don't think there will be any effort by China to attempt to "snuff-out" Japan.

I agree too, yes he did break a law so he must be accountable for it. What China should do is not pressure his family into hiding. They should show the good will of allowing his family members to go and receive the reward on his behalf.

China is a global power now, they have responsibilites by being this global power.

Personally, i think they have to much power for the 'maturity' of their government. I think sooner or later, they are going to piss off way to many countries and ultimately destroy themselves, OR they are going to start using their power to slowly take over/influence other countries.

Also, Japan is going to get fucked. This little thing about the Nobel Peace Prize is a small show of what they wil do..

What makes you think that there will be a major confrontation between China and Japan. Their trade relations have been decent in the last decade. There is nothing that I know of to indicate something like that.

I agree China has been heavy-handed in their dealing with this, but what this amounts to, in their eyes, is an effort by other states to interfere with their sovereignty. It should be expected that they would react harshly. I do not see this particular incident as "immaturity," though there are plenty of other issues to point to that I would say display "immaturity"

Japan is fine, unless China gets pushy and tries to take back some islands to the south (Not sure of the names).
Taiwan on the other hand might have issues in the coming years. China wants Taiwan back pretty bad. And if you look at a map it's RIGHT off the China coast.

As far as China having certain moral responsibilities because of it's world status...not sure about that.

Look at us, the United States. We, in general, think of ourselves as world leaders, with high morals, fighting for freedom. But if you take a look from another perspective you see we have more people in prison than any other country. And, I'm sure our armies have killed more people than any other country in the world in the past 10 years as well. So, are we the good guys or the bad?

I think it is all about point of view.
