Buying a Used Car
« Topic Start: August 19, 2010, 11:12:07 AM »
My '92 Buick is just getting older and more things are going bad on it. Time to move on.

What do you all make of this deal? Kinda high? I dunno how much I can get for my trade in - they say they accept anything though.
I'm not doing loans and/or payment plan crap - cash down, done deal.

They offer standard 'limited' (whatever that means - I can call) 3 month/3000 mile warranty.

I'm looking for something semi-sporty in looks. I'm probably more into the car looking fast, than actually being fast. I know it's not making  much practical sense, but the cars around me are all the same standard looking toyota - no flavor. I like the Civic EX because it's a compact car, yet has 4 seats and is a gas saver.

A Toyota Celica would be nice, but not as good on gas - but looks a lot more bad ass. And it's more expensive.

Any other options for semi-sporty, yet gas saver? Budget is a max of $4500.

yeah, I checked those out as well. The few I found were too pricey. Even old ones, like '98 and crap.

Oh and the big breaker on that is that it has only 2 seats. Not practical for me.

Well that civic is overpriced with that mileage. Should be able to find one for 3k or so.

pretty average deal. Not very good ones right now.
Take that ugly bra off and have some fun. Oh btw 108k on an mr2 = 40k on a buick as far as wear and tear and all that shit goes.

this is becoming a ridiculous ride.

I was actually done. Decided just to make it to spring. Thing is, I don't know if the old car can make it. Also, it would be easier to sell while it's still running.

People - private and dealers alike - are asking crazy cash for old ass hondas man.

Budget is strictly $5000 excluding tax. Looking for small, light cars. But somewhat 'cool' - aerodynamic. Like a onda coupe I'd say.

wouldn't mind one at all. But again, $$$$

dude, I am not getting a '92 with that many miles. Am not looking for a 'hobby'. Nor a 2 seater.

Okay to each his own. It's good for another 100k but I understand. Toyota is just as reliable as any Honda. Have you looked into any 2000+ Ford Focus's ? They have really come down and get good mileage.

BTW Rom, I applaud you for living within your means and refusing the enticing, well-marketed prison that is debt. An example for the rest of America.

I looked at 1 Ford Focus but he was asking too much even after I got him down to 4200 and he would take my Buick.

There's another. 2002 4door sedan. Red - which can be hot, but not really on that car. lol

I think they look lame. Boring car. But yes, great gas saver.
As far as dependability, I hear good things usually - but apparently the GF of a friend has one that's a couple years old and it's falling apart.

A wise man told me: Buy what you like, because you're gonna spend a lot of time with it. You should enjoy that time.
He also told me to wait 6 weeks or so and wait for the newer models to come out.
Is there a time of the year where older models get reduced in price? End of the year? Beginning of fall?

I'm looking at this one. Is it TOO good? From what I've seen so far in Denver, that's a really good deal.

I like the way it looks. I might go take a look at it and see the carfax.

There's a dealership with a 2000 civic..or maybe 01. Anyway, 215K miles, and he wants 5K. Absolutely ridiculous. People are asking 5K for 120k+++ 99 hondas. I dunno wtf is going on. There are thousands of them on the road.

And thanks Profit.
I have been thinking about getting something nicer, putting down 4K or something, and doing payments from then on. But I have a problem with paying interest - not the good kind of milking me.
