Historic 10 Hour Wimbledon match
« Topic Start: June 23, 2010, 06:03:11 PM »
While we're all enjoying our World Cup, crazy shit is going on in Wimbledon.

The historic event is that this is the first ever tennis match, between Isner (US) and Mahut (France), that is going to be played over 3 days, and OVER 10 hours (so far). They stopped play today because it got dark. The previous record was 6h 33min. The previous record for aces in a match was 58 or something. Today Isner had 98 vs Mahut's 95 I believe.

Quote
John Isner and Nicolas Mahut have been trying to reach the second round of Wimbledon for two days and the score — read it carefully — stands at 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 59-59.

Play began Wednesday with a fifth set that was eventually suspended because of fading light after 7 hours, 6 minutes on court. In total the match has been in play for exactly 10 hours. Already this match has made a mockery of any record that has ever been set in the entire history of the game. It is very rare for a sport to have its record books shredded quite so comprehensively in one afternoon. But before we get into the stats let us pay tribute to two quite extraordinary athletes who, incredibly, improved the level of their play as the match went on and showed a focused fortitude of mind and body that left their peers open-mouthed in amazement.

Nah fuck that, I don't watch anything except the World Cup and sometimes the Olympics. I'd rather be playing sports than watching them. American football, hockey, basketball, baseball, tennis etc...they all bore me to watch on TV. It must be the European in me that enjoys soccer though. I get into that shit. hehe

Still, I read about this and just epic lol'd.

ESPN was cutting to this during the halftimes of their World Cup broadcasts today... that shit is unreal man.

They even delayed their coverage of the Australia-Serbia match because they were still showing this match.
