TV
« Topic Start: March 22, 2010, 07:58:49 AM »
I think I know the answer to this, but there are better A/V geeks than I around so I'll double check.

Over the weekend my DLP (61md10 is the model) stopped displaying any digital inputs (HDMI or component).  I can still get the onscreen menus from the TV etc and can still see analog input (the old basic yellow vid cable).

When something is plugged in to the HDMI or component, I don't get the continuous "Unusable Signal" message I would get it nothing was plugged in.  I get a blank screen and every once in a while that message would flash.

Legit question. Were you messing with some wires or did this "just happen"?

Since the TV only has 1 HDMI input we have a 3 port HDMI hub which has the xbox and the tivo (btw, the downstairs TiVo is dedicated to recording all hockey on TV so we won't run into the new year's situation again -- 200 hours of HD hockey).  Anyway, we were watching TiVo and went to switch to Xbox and got nothing.

Now, I have tried swapping around HDMI cables, got rid of the hub and tried connecting directly.  I also tried component cables instead of HDMI for the TiVo.  So, we've tested different video sources (xbox, tivo) and different cables directly to the TV.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like something could be wrong w/ the HDMI socket/board in the TV. Is it under any type of warranty?

I blame the xbox..

It may even be as simple as some sauntering on the board inside the TV. My cousin had this issue in his laptop with an HDMI out cable.

When I looked into buying my 61inch Samsung (one of the first DLPs they made) they were not willing to warranty it for over 2 years due to a "rotating part" that assisted in making this DLP as bright as possible. There was one site that even claimed at full brightness that particular part would go at 10,000 rpm. The TV is still as bright as the day we received it but has been used very lightly.

Good luck going through the dead end retarded forums in hope of one solution.

component isn't digital though

I'd also buy a new TV.  Repairing TVs can get very expensive.
Rear projection are a dying breed( quite literally obviously) and the newest flat panels are big a inexpensive.

1080p
higher contrast
better viewing angles
more digital inputs
I'd almost have to say more energy efficient as well.  Especially if you get an LED backlit panel.

If you wanted to tell me something, you should have done it before you died.

Didn't you have on hell of a deal on Dell.com for a 48inch or something you came across recently?
