Your two samples basically sound like what I've been listening to.
My only conclusion is that dubstep wasn't around in 1997.   :whatta:

Did you guys listen to any of the samples from the album I linked?

If you wanted to tell me something, you should have done it before you died.

IDK what you lot are talking about, but no, dubstep wasn't around in 1997. Dubstep came into its own, distinct from grime and 2-step, around late 2002. Not until 2006 or so did it become anything more serious.

Found this dude, making the same type of dubstep I'm working on myself currently, which he calls "melodic dubstep", and I've been referring to simply as "chill dubstep". In any case, good shit imo, combining trance with dubstep.

What are you using to make your dubstep?

FL studio 8 (producer edition XXL) and Reason 4

Which reminds me, need to get FL 9, has some cool new updates.

Reason is the better program IMO. Steeper learning curve but once excellent for somethings, not for others. Hence I use both. :D

FL studio: VSTs!
Reason: Much better sequencer!

Haven't used FL9 or Reason5 so maybe they've improved in ways as yet unknown to me.

I can't speak to FL Studio.

I'm still on Reason 4 as well.  Been using it since 2.5.

I also use Sonar, Pro Tools (if you know someone who wants to buy it with the hardware...), BFG Drums and Guitar Rig for all the guitar processing.

Though none of this has been installed on the new PC yet...

Been meaning to try out Sonar vs Cubase, haven't gotten around to it or needed to yet though. Still learning how to make full use of FL (idiot friendly) and especially Reason (scary for a beginner, glad I started with FL first).

It took me a while to learn the Reason sequencer.  I still would just use it as a sound generator and sequence from Pro Tools or Sonar.

The first Melodic/dubstep song reminded me a lot of some songs that really get the calm more serious story line parts through in Initial D. The one and only anime I've ever enjoyed. But yeah I've always loved that sound. Best of luck on your song, I can't wait.  :the clapper:

We'll see. Its not coming out until I'm completely satisfied with it.
