AvP and the awesome Steam!
« Topic Start: February 18, 2010, 01:56:25 PM »
i just bought Alien vs. Predator. Game looked great on vids and stuff so I thought could be a good deal.
Well I tried to install it.... ha! awesome! only working with Steam! Well I have 2 DVDs in front of me but again it needs to download something via Steam. Surprise, surprise: servers are overloaded. God fuckin damnit!!!! Its finally downoading now.. tho I could actually be playing atm ... without steam..
Fuckin hell... I really miss the days when I went to a shop, bought a game, installed it without any issues and just had fun.. where did those days go??

Btw.. is anyone getting this game too?

I was looking at it the other day because I was looking for something to do.  Let me know how it is and I might get it (on Steam).

Without Steam I would be able to say something about it allready.. it started downloading nearly 2 hours ago and its at 64% with a 1.4 mb/s. Wonder why they put 2 DVDs into the case... i mean the whole game is 15 gigs huge... but 2 DVDs = 9.4 GB. What about a freakin 3rd DVD and everything is just fine freakin hell...

I played the old AvP from like 2003 or 4. I can tell you that that game was great then. All 3 races are a distinct play experience, and it really keeps the game fresh.

Well after 3 hours of downloading (Steam downloaded the whole game, Im still wondering why those 2 DVDs in the case...) and played for about 20 mins. Awesome 20 mins. Game looks great and is huge fun. Some lag issues still... game freezes for 2 secs, then for about 5 secs and everything works fine again. Allready read in a forum that lots of ppl have this issue at the start of the marines campaing. After playing those 20 mins, I alt-tabbed out of the game, not a good idea. Game crashed and now it wont start again under DirectX11. IŽll try again tomorrow.
But again, so far it looks awesome, but all the issues around it are kinda pissing me off. Lets hope it will get better tormorrow xD

Aight.. I started all of the three campaings.. Alien and Predator are def. my favorites. Its sooo awesome to sneak up on the marines and fuckin own them!! xD
Played a short round of multiplayer: First round was Species Team DM. Great fun! I was playing as an alien and well.. if ur teammate sucks ur kinda fucked. But it was still fun.
Second round I tried that Predator Hunt. Everybody starts as a marine except one who is a Predator. Sounds like fun but it wasnt at all. map is quite huge and ur more standing around doing nothing then actually trying to kill the Predator.
Huge issue was the Ping. Again one of the players is hosting the game and actually has a 0 ping. I had a 400 ping. There were a few who had a ping around 100 but no way I could play with that ping...
Screenshot to see the pings:

It looks like there are only 2 having that issue.. gonna try tomorrow again later to see if it connects with european guys... would be way better I guess xD

So, Singleplayer seems to be great fun. All of the three campaings. Each is very easy to get into and individual. So I think IŽll be busy for the next days :) Multiplayer didnt look that great so far because of the ping issue, as I said lets hope I get a better ping tomorrow.

Please.

I just installed it and no matter how many times I shoot an alien or predator, it won't die.  Uninstalling.
It looks like Doom 3 with the source engine.

Edit:
Well, I gave it one more try and went 7-2.  It's not a terrible game but I wouldn't buy it.

I downloaded the demo of this game on 360. It could have been cool, but it was beat. I didn't have any fun playing it.
