Thanks for the big forum upgrade, Dolph!

Also….June update done in time.

May was a historic month in the world.  Usually when people think of May their thoughts turn to May 16th’s celebrations and festivities.  What will they wear?  Who will they ask out?  How many of them will come to life when you add water.  Yes, National Sea Monkey Day has a long and rich tradition.  Although it is sad that such a great day may somehow be overshadowed by May 2nd, the day Obsama was killed, one can’t help but wonder if the world is better off.  Sure, the terrorism threat is diminished.  But, at what cost?  Who will remember Nation Sea Monkey Day now in May?

Somehow I think we’ll be ok.

Also a good moment to remember that Ranger Squad still have some folks on active duty — good luck, thanks and be safe!

If the Congress of the Cow fails to approve a spending bill by Friday, Ranger Squad will shut down.

Please see the below Frequently Asked Question on this this shutdown may affect you.

Which Services Will Stop?
Most Ranger Squad services will stop.  TeamSpeak will default to transmitting 800 hz white noise.  Child day care services will cease.  The Diary Queen discount card will no longer be valid.  Body waxing will be unsubsidized.  Please call the hot line for further information.

Which services would the Ranger Squad keep running?
Only essential services will remain operational, though at diminished capacity.  Dolph’s artificial soul will continue to run at diminished capacity.  Infested’s anger will only be at 25% power.   LoveOfProfit’s love of profit will be downgraded to mild affection towards profit.

How many Ranger Squad workers would be furloughed?
All but Romaniac.  For obvious reasons.

Will Diary Queen Discount Cards be mailed?
No.

How long will a shutdown last?
Between 1977 and 1980, there were six shutdowns ranging from eight to 17 days.

So a monthly update was missed.  February is a short month, it’s easy to miss!  I mean, what’s leap year all about?  Just so February can end on the same day as October?  If they love each other so much, why don’t they get married?

But, I digress….

Still no real mods for Black Ops.  RS is watching some new games to see how they develop – Homefront, Crysis 2, Red Orchestra 2, another Battlefield game.  Will any of these be competition worthy?

To make up for missing February, I’ve added a couple new emoticons for the forums.  You’re welcome.

O Mods, mods, wherefore art thou mods for Black Ops?

(As an aside, I realize that the line above doesn’t really make any sense.  In the famous Shakespeare scene Juliet isn’t asking where Romeo is, but why is Romeo Romeo.  Why couldn’t he be someone else (from another family that settles their feuds with bake offs, for instance).  But, hey, why let correctness get in the way of expressing a point.  And now you know.)

Wow, Ranger Squad has somehow lasted another year.  I guess we shouldn’t be surprised anymore after 7 years.  But, still, it’s somewhat unlikely when you think of our overall history and the bozos that show up here.  Thanks everyone for playing.

But, we all know the really big news — Someone who I shall name only via the pronoun “me” or “I” has won Ranger Squad Fantasy Football for the second time.  In the history of the universe, this has never happened before.  And yet, you all have now witnessed it.  It’s like being there for the Big Bang or the invention of fire.

Believe in yourself….

November!  The time when you’re supposed to post all the things you are thankful for!  Well, pfft…  here’s some updates instead!
Fantasy Football Season 7 has only 2 weeks left in the regular season and 9 out of the 10 teams are still mathematically in the hunt for the playoffs.  This is probably the strongest competition yet.

Black Ops is pulling RS members out of the woodwork and it’s great to see everyone in force again on the servers.  (Ok, fine, I’ll be thankful for that, stop staring at me now).  Though it seems that the repetition of the core maps and hardcore games is starting the wear on some people…the mods can’t come soon enough.

Ah October, leaves are nice and orange.  The evil burning globe of light in the sky hides earlier and earlier.  But, alas, no Scotchtoberfest…

It looks like Ranger Squad is passing on the new Medal of Honor game.  The lackluster reviews seem to be validating this choice.  Many of us played the Beta and it’s basically the third game in the last 12 months doing basically the same things.

The next great big hope seems to be the new Call of Duty game from Treyarch with hopefully real PC/dedicated server support to give the game some life.
